Day 1: Jerico Day and Night
Starting after breakfast you'll travel through some beautiful Antioquien countryside to arrive at the heritage-listed town of Jerico.
On arrival, your guided tour will start with your first stop at a hill overlooking this town called Morro El Salvador. Here you’ll discover a giant Statue of Christ watching down on the residents far below, along with another wonderful photo opportunity for you.
Your 2nd stop in this colorful little town will be Los Balsos Botanical Gardens. Although only a small garden this space will provide you with a true sense of peace and relaxation, while walking along the stone path, and crossing small bridges, designed for the sole purpose of providing you pleasure.
Following this, you’ll continue to a workshop and museum of the stunning leather handbag called the Carriel. Here you’ll not only get the opportunity to purchase one of the finest handmade leather products of this region, but you’ll also get to view the intense, hard work that goes into creating this functional piece of wearable art.
By now you’ll be feeling a bit peakish and will enjoy stopping for a wonderful lunch at one of the many restaurants that border the colorful town plaza.
Your last stop before a free evening in this picturesque town and some relaxation in your Jerico hotel will be at the house of Saint Laura. This is the original home of Saint Laura (Colombia’s first Saint, Sister - Laura Montoya), has been converted into a convent and museum.
Day 2: Jardin Day and Night
Following breakfast and a relaxing morning, you'll travel a couple of hours to arrive at yet another Colombian heritage town; Jardin.
Arriving in time for some lunch you'll stop in one of the many wonderful restaurants before enjoying a walking tour of this picturesque town wandering the streets marveling at the colonial buildings and balconies full of flowers.
Not only this but you'll also get to visit the Jardín de Rocas. This is where you encounter the simply beautiful bird species called the Gallito de Roca (Cock Of The Rock). An absolutely beautiful bright red bird that is absolutely spectacular for birders and all nature lovers alike.
Next, it's off to Cafe de Jardin to discover the wonderful view of Jardin down below. After you've enjoyed the view and a refreshing drink it'll be down into the valley and to your Jardin hotel to enjoy a free afternoon.
Day 3: Cueva del Esplendor
Starting after breakfast you'll take a 45 min Willys Jeep ride along some rough roads to come to the entrance of a farmhouse. Walking down the path you'll be treated with a smile, a hot Agua panela, and a snack to build up your energy levels for the next short hike to the cave.
Walking along a path surrounded by native forest and steep slopes you'll hear the constant song of birds in the nearby trees. The hike is only 30 min long and is not difficult thanks to cables that acted as handrails on the trail.
Before you arrive at the Cueva del Esplendor, you'll hear the torrent of water rushing and splashing down into the small lagoon below. You'll peer down into the darkness, and your eyes will almost immediately adapt to the reduced light and encounter the beautiful and rare view of a waterfall within a cave.
This location is known to be one of the most photogenic and unusual but beautiful places in Antioquia, and also a wonderful place for a very refreshing swim.
NB. Water shoes, a towel, and swimwear are not essential but recommended.
