Chicamocha National Park and Coffee Tour

When traveling through Colombia a coffee tour is at the top of everyone’s to-do list. And when staying in Bucaramanga visiting the Chicamocha National Park – PANACHI is an absolute must-do! Combining these 2 tours into the same day will provide you with fantastic memories of the taste of the most expensive Colombian coffee, and the magical views of the Chicamocha Canyon, the 2nd largest canyon in the world!

A journey of about an hour from Bucaramanga will get you to the exclusive Hacienda El Roble coffee farm. Producing the highest-priced coffee in Colombia is no easy feat. But with the quality of their workers and the perfect growing conditions on their hacienda, this organic farm has been able to sell their coffee for up to $150 USD a pound in the international markets.

On arrival, you’ll be greeted with a fresh cup of premium hot coffee to enjoy while viewing the beautiful garden. Following this, you’ll begin a complete guided tour through the different varieties of organic coffee that are grown here, along with learning the all-embracing coffee process from the seed being sown to the final product being drunk. You’ll get a chance to explore the outside coffee museum and purchase some of this amazing coffee for a 1/3 of the price (international selling price US $150.01/lb (0.45kg), price on the farm US $50/lb).

After you are full of coffee knowledge and possibly purchased some of the highest quality coffee in Colombia, you’ll take a short 10-minute ride to the edge of the amazing Chicamocha Canyon.

At this point, you’ll climb into one of the 38 cable cars that travel along this 6.3km (3.9mi) track, down to the Chicamocha River in the sole of the Chicamocha Canyon, and up again the other side of the canyon and into Panachi (Chicamocha National park). Your ride will provide you with wonderful panoramic views and last between 22-30 minutes. Once you have disembarked, you’ll enter into Panachi, and enjoy a walking tour including the Guane museum, where you’ll learn about the history of the small town and the Guane Indians. You’ll also check out a giant tobacco leaf, which is a monument to the Comuneros Movement, an uprising that took place before the rebellion of Simon Bolivar and attributed to the start of the revolt that finally saw the Spanish leave Colombia in 1819. Depending on the timing you’ll also have time for a coffee and a walk up to the magical 360’ viewpoint. But not to worry, if you’d rather sit down instead of walking this section, as there is a Chiva in Panacha that will transport you right there.

You’ll also find a waterpark here, along with a section for those who are a little more adventurous. Activities you can enjoy here include climbing an artificial waterfall, zip-lining, an extreme swing, virtual reality, and trampolines.

Once you’ve enjoyed your time at this one-of-a-kind park, you’ll start your journey back to Bucaramanga, climbing back into a cable car for your ride to the other side of the canyon and your waiting transportation.
